Cedars-Sinai Named Rare Disease Center of Excellence
Cedars-Sinai was named a Rare Disease Center of Excellence by the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), recognizing its exceptional expertise in rare disease research, diagnosis, and specialized treatment. This designation places Cedars-Sinai among a select network of 46 institutions nationwide focused on shortening diagnostic timelines, improving access to care, and training the next generation of rare disease specialists. Rare diseases, defined as conditions affecting 200,000 people or fewer, collectively impact millions of Americans, with nearly half of those diagnoses occurring in children. The NORD recognition strengthens Cedars-Sinai’s role as a hub for clinical trials and genomic research, helping accelerate the development of innovative therapies for rare genetic conditions. Leadership from experts such as Joyce So, MD, PhD, and Saquib Lakhani, MD, will guide the center’s efforts to share knowledge and resources across the NORD network, bridge gaps in care, and improve outcomes for rare disease patients and their families both in the U.S. and globally.
